Fakaalofa Lahi Atu, Kia Ora, Hello!

They say a picture paints a thousand words but just in case my profile picture doesn’t tell you enough or gives you the wrong words, I will share a few things about me.

Yes, I do have tattoos!  Each one has a story and is a moment in my timeline that I chose to visibly mark.  Yes, I do take photos! Of everything, because in years to come these will be reminders of my life and of all the things that I have been so proud of or learned from.  And yes, I teeth smile and belly laugh a lot! Because I am genuinely happy and optimistic.

I have enjoyed an adventure filled life participating in many sports, but my passion and talent lay in competitive and representative athletics and rugby.  Nowadays, I prefer more relaxing pursuits such as fishing, bush walks, gardening, Cook Island dancing and yoga.   Being physically healthy has always led to a strong state of mind for me and without it I feel out of balance.

During my early years, I left our shores to broaden my horizons in places such as Japan, the UK and Europe.  I found cultures rich in tradition, ceremony and colour with tantalizing food.  These experiences gifted me with an understanding of how to communicate across all barriers and an awareness of my own place in this world.  But more importantly, it made me appreciate my own heritage and homeland.

My background is a melting pot of ethnicities but let’s keep this simple…my mother is from ‘The Rock’, Niue and my father was from Wellington.  Over 25 years ago my father died, and his ashes were returned to where his heart called home; under the watchful gaze of Maunga Taranaki.  I was born and raised under the hills of Titirangi, West Auckland.  Over a decade ago, I was drawn to Northland by a man who stole my heart, whom I married and have built a loving nest with for our son to grow and thrive in.

We have adopted several animals over the years, each of whom will eventually break my heart with their passing but will be sent off with a ceremony and a good wish.  We have spent countless hours in our garden planting, growing, eating, playing.  We have never stopped exploring NZ and distant lands because this satisfies curiosity, builds character and confidence. Many nights have we slept under the stars, camped out playing in and around the plentiful waters and forests, using imagination and creativity to keep our souls dancing.

I became a celebrant a little bit by chance but a lot by fate.  Everything I have ever done has led to this in one way or another. The skills I have gained and developed, the passion and energy I have, my ability to connect and empathise comes from my upbringing and all the experiences since which empowers me to craft words with care and tell your story with love.

To your ceremony I will be my genuine self which encompasses all of these things at the right times in the right amounts: caring, energetic, empathetic, gentle, guiding, supportive, direct, bold, enthusiastic, relaxed, calm, colourful.

I am Darcie Price…celebrant of life…celebrating life…and I can’t wait to meet you!
